Cape Town, South African, 12 March 2026 – Global sports company PUMA and Borussia Dortmund have today unveiled the club’s 2025/26 Special Kit — a powerful tribute to 100 years of Stadion Rote Erde, the historic heart of BVB’s footballing story.
Standing proudly beside Signal Iduna Park, Stadion Rote Erde is more than brick and sandstone. It is where generations of Black & Yellow dreams were born. Once the club’s home ground and now the stage for Borussia Dortmund II, the women’s team and local athletic clubs, the stadium remains a living monument to the passion, pride and community that define Die Schwarzgelben.
To mark its centenary, PUMA has reimagined the spirit of Rote Erde in a striking cold black colourway with refined beige accents. Subtle yet deeply symbolic design details bring the stadium to life: a tonal graphic inspired by the iconic running track wraps around the collar, sleeves and back, while an embossed pattern references the historic entrance gates that welcomed generations of supporters. A sandstone-inspired finish – echoing the stadium’s distinctive architecture – completes the look and carries through to the goalkeeper jersey, connecting past and present in every detail.
This is a kit rooted in heritage, built for today.
Marco Mueller, PUMA’s Senior Director of Product Line Management Performance Apparel, said: “BVB’s identity isn’t manufactured – it’s inherited. Designing a kit that traces the club back to the very walls and walkways that shaped its character was an incredible journey. We wanted to create something that feels timeless and authentic, yet unmistakably modern. The detailing is deliberate and layered – subtle nods that reward those who know the story of Rote Erde.”
“The Rote Erde is one of BVB’s most defining places – a piece of home in which, over decades, it has been shown what Borussia Dortmund stands for. With the special kit, we draw on the architecture, the atmosphere and the history of this stadium and translate them into a contemporary design that visibly connects BVB’s tradition and present,” adds Kerstin Zerbe, Managing Director of BVB Merchandising GmbH.
The Rote Erde kit for the 2025/26 season will be unveiled live on the pitch: the first team will wear the special edition in their home match against Hamburger SV on 21 March 2026. The following day, 22 March 2026, the women’s team will present the jersey at their home game in the Stadion Rote Erde – a special moment, as Rote Erde is the women’s home ground.
On 25 March 2026 the “Match of the Century” returns to its birthplace: at the site where BVB defeated Benfica Lisbon 5–0 in 1963, former club heroes will wear the special jerseys to face a Benfica select XI. This high-profile friendly will be a celebration of memory and will underline the historic significance of Stadion Rote Erde. The jersey will also be worn in further friendly matches, including a fixture against the Liverpool legends.
The BVB Rote Erde 2025/26 jersey blends traditional design with cutting-edge performance technology and is available in both a Replica and an Authentic version. The BVB Authentic Jersey was developed with PUMA’s innovative ULTRAWEAVE technology – an ultralight engineered fabric that is PUMA’s lightest performance jersey to date and offers maximum freedom of movement.
Both versions feature PUMA’s dryCELL moisture-wicking technology, so players and fans stay cool and comfortable even under heavy exertion. As part of PUMA’s RE:FIBRE initiative, the jersey is made from at least 95% recycled textile waste and other reclaimed polyester materials, underscoring the brand’s commitment to more sustainable production without compromising performance.
Available from 19 March via PUMA.com, Studio 88 and Totalsports. Pricing R2 299 for adult and R1 999 for junior sizes.
